Percentage of total marks:

The AIDA course is equivalent to a single GCSE and can be completed over two years (Year 10 and Year 11). The CIDA course is equivalent to a double GCSE and can be completed over two years (AIDA in Year 10 and CIDA in Year 11). Both are assessed 100% on coursework (e-portfolio). Students need to consult with their ICT teacher to confirm which course they will be following.

Number of pieces of coursework and their titles:

One coursework project for the AIDA – Unit 1 “Using ICT”

Plus one coursework project for the CIDA – Unit 2 “Multimedia”

Summary of what the coursework involves:

In Unit 1 “Using ICT” you will learn how to choose reliable information; gather, analyse and store information; produce and present meaningful information (reports, posters, presentations and websites); and use ICT to plan, research, analyse and present information through a project.

In Unit 2 “Multimedia” you will use multimedia software to design, create (including sound and images), and test effective multimedia products for specified purposes and audiences.

When coursework is due to be handed in:

There is one e-portfolio for the AIDA and two e-portfolios for the CIDA. These are done in class under exam conditions (30 hours each) and have to be completed by May of the final year of the course, for marking by the teacher.

Some tips for producing good coursework:

Ø  All lessons are an opportunity to learn and practise the skills needed for the e-portfolio. If you are absent, ask what was missed and catch up as soon as possible.

Ø  Keep up-to-date. If work set in class is not completed, do it for homework.

Ø  If you do not understand what you should do, ask your friends or the teacher.

Ø  Be organised. Keep your work in suitable folders on the network. Keep backup copies.

How parents can support their son/daughter with coursework:

Ø  Help students to take work home via USB memory device, CD or email so that they can work on a PC at home.

Ø  Ensure that students know how to find and use the examination board website http://dida.edexcel.org.uk/home/

Ø  Promote well-organised use of a computer at home for all homework.
