NYBEP Biodiversity: Learning about the environment

As part of the technology college plan Stokesley School has developed a biodiversity area in the school grounds.  The purpose of the project is to provide a community resource where members of the public, school children and local community groups can visit this area to view the plants and wildlife.  All visits must be booked through the school Community Education Office.   The site is due to open summer 2006.

An interest group “Stokesley School Wildlife Group” was formed and an application for funding the project was made to the “People’s Places Award Scheme.”  (National Lottery Fund)  The group were awarded almost £10,000 to construct the area.

Contractors and volunteers have worked on the site.  If you are interested in helping with this project please contact Stokesley School.

Progress and plans:-

2003 – grant awarded
2004 – pond created, boardwalk/fencing/gates installed
2005 – pond area developed and fencing completed.
2006 – planting the area, wildlife encouraged.  Possible use by community (booked through school)
