Sixth Form College at Stokesley
An environment for success
We believe very strongly in creating a partnership between you, the student, and your teachers because mutual
respect is at the heart of a successful Sixth Form career.
Our students, together with their parents, see the relationship with teaching staff as friendly, positive and professional. Every student is part of a tutor group of around 20. Our well-qualified staff are committed to giving you all the support and encouragement you need. There is a careful and effective monitoring and assessment to ensure you reach your full potential, both academically and socially, regardless of your background or starting point.
Our expectations are high but realistic. After two years, our aim is for you to have made the transition from school pupils to independent learners. You will be confident young adults ready to move on to the challenges of university or the world of work.
We are proud of our tradition of academic success - our average A-level point score continues to be the highest in the area and our GNVQ results are also impressive.

The main school library is situated in our building with extensive and up-to-date books, periodicals, CD's, videos, CD-Roms, Internet access and ICT facilities. In addition to the school's careers library, the Sixth Form block also has a well stocked UCAS reference room where you will find prospectuses, guides and other essential reference material for the prospective undergraduate.

Ofsted report
Guidance into the Sixth Form
We treat all our students as individuals, Prime importance is placed on giving you full information to support your
choice of Sixth Form courses. We encourage extensive information gathering and discussion, using the expertise of your current teachers, family and friends. For internal students, we seek the views of colleagues in school, for external applicants contact is made with their current school and predicted GCSE grades obtained.
Every applicat is interviewed after their GCSE trial exams and we try to make sure that your choice is balanced, appropriate and likely to end in success.
It is always useful to ask yourselves the following questions:-
Will I like it?
Will I be good at it?
Is it a sensible combination?
Will it get me to where I want to be?
If I don't know where I want to be, will it keep my options open?
"I came to this college from a different school and I didn't know what to expect. As any normal pupil I was nervous but the staff and students have welcomed me with open arms. I have made many new friends and developed new skills on my course. Thank you Stokesley Sixth Form!"
Lower Sixth student
A flexible choice
A full A-level is made up of two parts - AS and A2. You will choose up to four AS courses in the Lower Sixth with a GNVQ counting as two. In the Upper Sixth you can continue to study a subject at A2 level to complete a full A-level or start other AS courses. Most students will leave with three full A-levels and either one or two AS levels. This way you can broaden your studies, adding an arts subject to a science-based course or vice versa. Universities are particularly keen to see more students pursue a Modern Foreign Language.
