Safeguarding Stokesley School students and staff is our number one priority. Mr James Burns, Assistant Headteacher, is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and is supported by four deputy safeguarding leads. The safeguarding team have a high profile in school and information on who they are is displayed throughout the school and in our entrance.
The pastoral staff includes Heads of Year, the Ethos and Special Educational Needs (SEN) teams. We work to support our vulnerable pupils and intervene when safeguarding concerns arise. We work closely with outside agencies including NYCC Children’s Services, Early Help, CAMHS and the police to support individual students and their families.
All school staff undertake annual training with regard to best practice and safeguarding updates that are disseminated from a national level. This includes Keeping Children Safe in Education - Part 1. Staff are trained to recognise signs of radicalisation through the Prevent Strategy (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prevent-strategy-2011) and our Learning for Life programme links to this with age appropriate content delivered to our students.
All staff are trained in how to recognise and report safeguarding concerns, the Safeguarding Team respond to concerns rigorously and robustly.
