Stokesley School A-Level Students Prepare for their Next Steps
13 August 2020 | Darren Smith
It was a pleasure to see over half of our sixth form students collecting their results in person in our main hall today. The rest of our students opted to receive grades remotely, but have had the support of the sixth form team in understanding their grades and planning for their next steps if they needed it.
In an extraordinary year where many of our students – and staff – have been disappointed to not undertake the normal examinations, it has been wonderful to focus on the positives and ensure our students are well placed to move forward with their personal goals.
Many students were awarded strong grades including a number with a combination of As and A*s which is testament to the hard work they put in leading up to lockdown. Their university destinations range from medicine to maths, physics to chemical engineering, and sports therapy to geography, as well as some will now be entering the world of work.
Mrs Millett, headteacher, said: ‘2020 has been an exceptionally challenging time for everyone, not least our dedicated and hard working sixth form students. We know many of them would have relished the chance to take exams in their subjects, showcase their knowledge and be fully rewarded for their endeavour; alas, this was not to be. However, there was still excitement today as, against the controversial backdrop of this year’s grading, the students began to look to the future again and the next step towards fulfilling their dreams. Whatever they do, we know they will continue to make us proud as part of our honorary alumni.’
