Stokesley School Leads The Way In The Hambleton & Richmondshire Area Athletics Championships!

10 February 2020  |  Darren Smith

After weeks of training at the school athletics club our students put their fitness and skills to the test against fellow athletes from neighbouring schools at Middlesbrough Sports Village. With seven schools competing from year groups seven to ten the competition was stiff!

On Tuesday 18th June a total 70 students represented Stokesley School in the full range of track and field events. There were some fantastic results for individuals and great results for team Stokesley overall. With so many of our students winning events or finishing in the top three it meant collectively the year group teams came away with five out of the eight trophies up for grabs.

School Record Breakers

Year 7 Boys 4×100 relay 55.48s (H Allen, J Bury, T Rudge & F Maynard)

Year 7 Girls 4×100 relay 57.44s (F Clark, I Pearson, E Sedgewick & A Wilmot)

Emma Sedgewick Y7  broke the 200m record which has stood since 1990 clocking 28.71s. Emma also broke the High Jump record which was held by three people. She jumped 1.32m

Zoe Hill equalled the Year 8 1500m record at 5m04.

All of our students acquitted themselves superbly well both in terms of their conduct and achievements. Many students also managed to achieve some Personal Bests and lived up to the school motto of being the best we can be. The PE department are immensely proud. Mr Beattie would also like to thank subject teachers for their continued support of school sport by allowing students to be excused from lessons on such occasions.
